Bolgatanga Baskets - African Market BasketsWe are delighted to have these gorgeous baskets from the Maata-N-Tudu Association in northern Ghana. It was created to support the women of this region to improve the quality of their lives through education, loans and mutual self-help. Many of these women live on less than US$1 a day.
We have paid a much higher rate for their baskets than they are able to get in the local markets, so all baskets purchased directly help to improve their lives.
Available in a wide mixture of colours - blues, greens, reds, pinks, purples, oranges, yellows, etc! |

Basket CareIf these baskets become dirty or need reshaping - spray with water, keeping the leather dry, bend the area with your hand and then allow to dry thoroughly.
This can be repeated as many times as necessary without any damage to the basket, although the colours may fade with time.

Bolgatanga Baskets from Ghana The big baskets take up to 3 days to make, using straw known as elephant grass (veta vera).
They were originally made without handles and used as sieves during the brewing process of an alcoholic drink created for important occasions.
